About Dance Off Mobile DJs
Ian @ Dance Off Mobile DJ’s started his journey as a DJ at the age of 16. Starting on his friends Technics 1210 turntables he soon realised how to beat match playing Alice DJ – Better Off Alone! This sparked his mission to master the art of DJ-ing.
His first set of turntables, was an odd pair of used belt drive turntables with a basic mixer from Richer Sounds Cheltenham. Around this time the DJ’s favourite hub, Chemical Records was open. This is where most of his weekends, time and spare money were spent buying the latest releases and taking them home to master the mix.
Through collecting records and listening to the best DJ’s in the scene, Ian began to grow as a DJ. He collected music and developed his own style, buying records and CD’s and practicing as much as possible. Eventually upgrading to direct drive turntables, he mastered mixing and started to take DJ-ing more seriously.
He joined Aftershock Radio, one of the first internet radio stations in Gloucestershire. The radio station was set up by Aliina Mayes better known as Miss Represent, a local DJ and 100% legend. That platform gave lots of DJs and creatives in Gloucester the space to practice, collaborate and improve.
“During this time we all got our first taste of club DJ work and everyone was learning and growing into the DJ scene. Looking back I have nothing but gratitude and thanks to Aliina for the Aftershock Radio platform, it’s the place I really honed my skills as a DJ. It was an invaluable experience, and key point in my journey as a DJ”
Ian went on to study BTEC National Diploma Music Technology at Gloucestershire College where he started to learn music production. He continued to DJ and hosted a regular show on European internet radio station Jungletrain (that is still going strong today). Moving on to study BA Popular Music at Gloucestershire University, he developed his interests as an artist in music production, events and DJ-ing graduating with BA (hons) degree.
Ian was part of a of local music groups: Vital Organz/Boys in the Wood. In these bands he got experience playing gigs all over the UK including many music festivals. He developed as an artist producing music, promoting local music events and DJ-ing throughout.
2013 Beat Route Foundation Music Studios in Cheltenham was born. The project didn’t work out but many memories were created through the community music events that were the result of that project. Following this, Ian converted his current office/studio that has become the hub for Dance Off Mobile DJs.
Dance Off Mobile DJ’s started in 2015-16. Dance Off has been providing entertainment at weddings, birthdays and parties all over Gloucestershire and the South West ever since. Ian has a large music collection and knowledge of popular music from the 60’s to the current day. Hits across all genres and knowledge to keep the dance floor busy.
Today Dance Off have 6 years of Mobile DJ/events experience. We have played the top venues in Gloucestershire and worked for other established venues/contractors. Dance Off Mobile DJ’s have grown to offer a range of entertainment/event services. We have 50+ 5 star reviews across our advertising/social media platforms and are proud to be named as a ‘Top 3 DJ in Gloucester’ by Three Best Rated.
Ian has played on local community radio and now hosts a quarterly new releases podcast focused on exploring and discovering new music releases.
“My personal favourite styles centre around soulful music influenced by Hip Hop/RnB. From slower tempos all the way through Disco, House and up-tempo dance music styles”
Ian continues producing music and 2021 saw the release of one of his tracks with Sublingual via local record label Played Out Records. With a full album to be released in 2023/4. Dance Off is very much a family business and the Possee family is growing! In the weekdays Ian works as a web designer & digital marketing consultant.
